Let’s try to avoid using the related terms “debug” or “debugging”.

The term “debug” commonly means “get rid of the bugs”.

What Is Debugging

It happens so that it also comprises activities related to identifying the availability of software bugs and cooperating with them.

We advise to use “defect detection and removal” for the general concept and activities related to what many people normally call “debugging”.

If specific activities related to “debugging” are involved, we use more exactly defined terms, such as:

Specific activities related to defect detection, such as software testing, inspection and so on

Specific follow-up activities after defect detection, such as defect diagnosis, analysis, fixing, and re-verification
