Why Is It Important for Technical Testers and Testers With Software Domain Knowledge to Collaborate?

For a software testing company it is very important to organize work of its test team appropriately. One of the aspects, allowing to enhance the productivity and quality of web site testing, desktop testing and mobile application testing, is collaboration of technical testers with testers with domain knowledge.

Testers with domain knowledge deal with everything that concerns system subject matter. It is usually their responsibility to check the software requirements, functionality, content and so on from the point of view of the subject expert.

Technical testers deal with the technical aspects of an application. They usually perform automated testing. Their work is appraised according to certain criteria.

Criteria to Appraise an Automated Tester:

  • If the created scripts are easy to maintain, to adjust to the new build of the application or they can be used only once?
  • If the tester follows generally accepted standards and methods, for instance, possibility to return the database to its initial state in case the script must be rerun?
  • If the scripts are readable?
  • If the scripts are reliable?

Without at least fundamental understanding of system functionality even the best technical tester will not create effective automated test tools. Without deep comprehending of software structure and its technical aspects it is not feasible to perform thorough mobile testing desktop testing or web site testing either.

So, it a good practice for technical testers and testers with domain knowledge to cooperate. Their collaboration increases the efficiency of work of the whole test team.
