Any software product creates notifications in some cases. Notifications are meant to inform a user about events. Testers must not forget to check if notifications appear duly, performing mobile application testing, desktop testing or web site testing.

Basic idea of notifications is plain: a software product identifies an event and shows a message informing about it.

A software testing company notices that there are many things and events users can be informed about through notifications.

Various Programs Use Notifications in Order to Inform About Different Things:

• Applications executing certain tasks show notifications in order to notify the user that a task has been completed or that an error occurred during executing the task.
• There are custom programs watching security and fire alarms, detecting changes in home temperature, and so on. They create notifications in case any changes happen.
• Some software products let the user know about sport events, changes in weather or changes in stock prices.
• Communication programs show notification if a new message is received.
• There are special software products for reminding about important event dates in form of notification, about somebody’s birthday, for instance.
• An Operating System also shows notifications about errors, or in order to warn the user about something: low battery, too little free space on a disk left, or to inform that too many programs are operating and the performance of the device is low and so on.

Proper and timely generating of notifications is one of the important functions of a software product. It should be paid enough attention during web site testing, desktop testing or mobile testing.
