Usability Testing: what to focus on?

Mobile devices are designed for work in different places, under various conditions. They are utilized for diverse purposes. Modern mobile phones and tablets are portable computers. Due to portability they have functions and feature that are uncharacteristic of personal computers.

This causes distinctions between mobile and desktop software products and thus between mobile testing and desktop testing or web site testing.

In Order to Elaborate Appropriate Test Procedure and Suitable Test Coverage Testers Should Find out Among Other Things:

• what people will mostly utilize the program;
• for what purposes the application will be used.

Clarifying these questions allows to understand how the users will interact with the product, what are their expectations, fears and requirements.

In case of mobile application testing one should also find out where and under what conditions the system will be used. As people may work or spend much time out of office. For example, outside, under straight sunlight or at a temperature below zero, or in places with bad networking connection.

Performing usability testing of a mobile system, testers should take into account more aspects than while checking usability of desktop software. Those, who used to deal with programs for personal computers, may forget to consider peculiarities of mobile technology.

Any software testing company can confirm that ignoring of them leads to failure of mobile software products in production.
