When to Choose Tools for Software Testing?
At present software testing is a complex multilevel process; it isn’t less sophisticated than the development process. That is why hardly any web site testing, desktop testing or mobile testing is carried out without any instruments.
Special tools are used not only for automated testing; they are helpful during manual testing as well, for example, an error tracking system. The instruments facilitate the works and increase the project profitability, if selected and utilized appropriately.
Testers should consider many factors choosing the tools. One of the factors is time when the tools are selected.
It is Wise to Think About the Tools When:
- the test strategy and plan are elaborated;
- it is known who is included in the test team, their knowledge, skills, and experience;
- it is known what testing types will be performed;
- it is known what tests will be automated, if automation is required;
- it is determined what techniques and approaches will be applied in course of testing activities.
Tools selection should be the last step of test planning as the tools must assist software testing, and not the testing activities should be adjusted to the acquired tools. One should keep this in mind planning a testing process and choosing the instruments.
