Talented beginners in manual or automated testing quickly get promoted, and in the near future they may lead teams of test engineers.
Usually software testers get promotions and salary rise based on their work for the last year or half a year. The decision is made at a periodic review of their professional skills.
Experts in web site testing, desktop testing and mobile testing consider that one may ask for a promotion during such a review under certain conditions.
It is Reasonable for a Tester to Ask for a Promotion If:
- the tester is sure that he or she is ready to cope with more responsibility, to manage, motivate and help other testers, allocate tasks and do other things that the new position assumes;
- the tester didn’t make serious mistakes and didn’t cause failure of a project; if there were some minor mistakes that had no substantial impact on the quality of compatibility testing, performance testing, functional testing and so on, the tester should be able to explain them;
- the company doesn’t suffer from financial hardships.
A software testing company is interested in increasing professional competence of its testers as they allow the company to work more effectively and get more profit. Highly-qualified testers are a key to success of any software testing institution.
