Many testers during their career at least once faced with incomplete testing of sites that almost always leads to considerable financial costs, customer dissatisfaction, and, eventually, to the re-development of the portal.
For the organization of high-quality web-resource testing professionals recommend to follow a special procedure.
Stages of Competent Web Applications Testing:
- Preparation of the test plan based on the documentation received.
- Functional testing[1] – the most difficult part of the testing process. At this stage, all the functional requirements of the software, references operation, searching for non-working hyperlinks are tested. The files uploading on a server, counters’ work on the portal pages, user forms (for example, contacts, feedback, subscriptions, add messages, etc.) are checked. The compliance of the content pages with source codes is verified.
- Layout testing – verification of the elements location, the compliance with layouts, graphics optimization, the validity of code, cross-browserness (such as running a web site in various browsers).
- Usability Testing – validation of the user friendliness degree with the product. It is based on attracting users as testers, all the results and opinions are analyzed.
- Security Testing[2] – at this stage the tester verifies the protection of all the closed pages.
- Performance Testing[3] – determination of the site’s speed at a given load. Load testing is also used at this stage.
