To utilize the majority of software products, it is necessary to have them installed. Sometimes the installation process may cause troubles and difficulties. That is why installation testing[1] in software testing field is rather widespread.

In general, the aim of installation testing is to check whether the software is successfully installed and works appropriately. It can be a game, banking application, file manager, etc. – it is possible even to test Java installation.

The installation procedure can be of several types:

• clean,
• automated.

It is important to designed test cases for installation testing of each type in order to provide an effective software testing. An installation process is the first step of the user’s interaction with the product. Moreover, a wide range of different aspect should be covered during this type of product checking.

What Should Be Checked During Installation Testing?

• The installation process from different locations.
• Multi-platform testing[2] of product installation.
• GUI and user interface testing should also be performed to check whether the screen parameters are suitable for inputting.
• Functional testing[3] is conducted to ensure that the product works according to the specification.
• The installation procedure without the admin rights.
• The proper calculating of the disk space by the installer file.

Also, it is important not to forget about the uninstallation procedure. It should be testeв too.
