- How to Broaden Testing Skills?
High school graduates or people, who decided to change their career field, do not have skills and knowledge in utilizing software testing instruments, experience in performing mobile testing, desktop testing or web site testing.
Unfortunately, few if any educational establishments give knowledge required for performing manual or automated testing. One may attend some courses, but if a person wants to become professional in software testing and quickly find the desired job, he or she has to learn to work with the required tools by himself or herself. Nowadays one can use online or download many free tools and demo versions of commercial ones.
It is Wise to Learn at Home How to Work With:
- error tracking systems such as Bugzilla, Mantis, Redmine, Trac, JIRA;
- test management instruments, for example, TestLink; some test management instruments are also popular error tracking systems, like Redmine, Trac, JIRA;
- automated testing instruments, for example, Selenium.
Experts in software testing recommend creating an account and trying to add and edit error reports, automate some test cases and perform other common software testing tasks by means of the tools. One may read the instructions from the user manuals or find them on the Internet.
Having learned how to work with the instruments one can add them to the resume. The more relevant testing skills and knowledge are mentioned there, the better chances to find the desired job quickly.
