Nowadays a lot of present-day software applications are so intricate, and run in such an organic environment, that it is very difficult to conduct complete testing.

Here are some general aspects in deciding when to stop software testing:

  • Test budget exhausted
  • Coverage of code / requirements / functionality reaches a predesigned point
  • Test cases completed with certain percentage passed
  • Bug rate falls below a fixed level
  • Finishing of Beta testing or Alpha testing period
