At first sight, it may seem strange what parallel can be drawn between the music and software testing. However, any real devotee and practician confirm that such analogy can be visible.
What Are the Similarities Between the Music and Testing?
- Beginning with, it is worth to note that both music and testing have their own long-standing rules and customs. They are executed for the specified attendance (viewers or users) and in certain conditions. There are different musical genres (pop, rock, blues and so on), as well as a great variety of testing according to the context (functional testing, non-functional testing).
- The presence of determined structure elements, such as beat, groove, bar-line more than other things affirms that the music can be considered as the technique that consists of the set of principles. Executing the negative scenario during regression testing, a tester expects the error message, so when the musician plays the wrong note, his instrument immediately tells him.
- The concert and test cases always wait for the moment of performing. This process is often accompanied with intenseness. The high quality of fulfilled work is the main aim.
- The scripting is a very important aspect in this case. It often begins with the ideas given by the 3d party (producer or client) which lately are converted into creative “boom” of the workforce, especially in the aspect of exploratory testing.
Undoubtedly, an IT specialist, as well as a rock-star without natural skills can achieve some highs in their field, but having them will greatly simplify the situation. An art or an engineering professional should improve the respective qualification.
