It is known that quality assurance and web site testing, desktop testing and mobile application testing are of utmost importance for success of a software product on the market.

That is why different software testing standards appeared. The standards vary, but all of them aim to make a testing process fruitful, to touch all the aspects of the tested application and do not allow serious software bugs appear in production.

One should first learn the application requirements, the project deadlines and available resources before planning software testing. Then one may elaborate the test plan and test strategy based on the software specification.

A Test Plan Should Take into Account Such Issues:

  • test objectives and criteria when the testing works should stop;
  • areas and aspects of the application that are to be tested; as a rule, functional testing, usability testing, multi-platform testing, user interface testing and some other testing types are included in every project;
  • the project risks;
  • the project schedule;
  • the available resources.

When everything is carefully planned one may proceed to the testing activities. But a test plan may change. It must adjust to the changes of the project, when the managers decide to add some functionality, increase the number of supported platforms and so on.

The test plan should reflect all the changes of the project; otherwise it will become out-of-date and useless and software testing may not cover all the necessary functions and areas of the application.
